It has been almost 15 months since COVID-19 spread worldwide, causing the life we know to shut down completely. We often think about working from home or not visiting family at the weekends, but often forget the unthinkable toll on children.

School is just more than a place for learning, it is a place to socialise and develop emotional skills with like-minded kids in a safe environment.

Whilst evidence shows children are very unlikely to contract the virus, they are still victims of this pandemic. The pandemic has caused an emotional, social, and academic ordeal so extreme that the government has feared it has impacted the young generation drastically. School closures are one of the most visible means by which covid-19 has affected young people, with 90% of the world’s school-age children affected (Unesco).

Evidence from the BBC further shows how the impact of lockdown is long-lasting, with figures suggesting pupils fell behind even more during the second lockdown despite progress being made in the Autumn.

The government has proposed its £1.4bn  Covid recovery package, met at the distaste of Headteachers calling it a ‘damp squib’ (BBC). Experts estimate that the figure offered by the government is a drop in the ocean, and realistically should be near £13.5bn.

What you can do as Parents

It seems the progress will be slow to get our kids back on track with their education, so Parents may have to act sooner rather than playing a waiting game.

As Parents, you have the power over how your child spends their free time outside of school, valuable time that can be used to advance the learning that would’ve been lost in lockdown.

It is important to edge your child back into social life and make friends in a safe environment.

At Epic Camps, you can let your children find new hobbies away from the dreaded PlayStation or Laptops with our expert coaches. They can socialise with new and old friends in a safe environment. So why wait for the government to announce its next under-budgeted plan for children and take their future into your own hands.
